Robert Downey Jr. takes on the role of one of Marvel's greatest Super Heroes as Iron Man. The first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, it was directed by Jon Favreau and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Downey portrays Tony Stark, a wealthy weapons designer and CEO of Stark Industries. Personally, I do not think a better actor could have been selected for Tony Stark. Downey truly embodies the character of the comic books and brings him alive.

"Iron Man" tells the story of the billionaire industrialist and genius inventor whose company Stark Industries is the world's leading manufacture of military weapons.

"Robert Downey Jr. is one of the most talented and acclaimed actors of this generation," said Kevin Feige, president of production, Marvel Studios, in their offical press release. "His versatility sets him apart and makes him an ideal fit to play such a complex character as Iron Man. We could not think of another actor better suited to bring one of Marvel's crown jewels to the big screen and be the centerpiece of our first independently produced feature."

The movie opens with Stark returning from a successful weapons demonstration when the military convoy he is in comes under attack. Most of the military troops are killed in the attack, and as Stark tryies to escape, he is nearly killed by a weapon built by his own company.

Waking up in captivity, Stark is told to build a missile for his captors. At first he refuses, but soon he decides his only chance for escape is to cooperate. Working diligently, Stark uses the resources available to him and builds an armored war machine suit to escape.

Upon his return to America, Stark uncovers a nefarious plot with global implications. Determined to prevent the weapons sold by Stark Enterprises from being used by terrorists, he builds a new and more powerful armored war machine suit and vows to protect the world as Iron Man.

Stark works relentlessly developing his Iron Man armor and is soon hooked in combat with his enemies.

Jeff Bridges portrays Obadiah Stane, the second in command of Stark Industries. Terrence Howard portrays Jim Rhodes, and Gwyneth Paltrow portrays Virginia 'Pepper' Potts.

"Iron Man" is an amazing film and arguably the best comic book movie made yet grossing $35 million on Friday. The Friday tally is the third-highest opening day ever for a non-sequel according to slashfilm.com.

When the credits roll, stick to your seat if you want to see the last scene of the film. Samuel Jackson appears in the scene as Nick Furry!

If you find you don't get enough of "Iron Man," then make sure to see the Hulk in June. Rumors have it the Iron Man will be appearing. ~ Nuff said.
